Food supplement E1442 - what is it? Her influence on the body
Modern food stores offera huge assortment of food products of different price categories. Freedom of choice is not absolute, as it may seem at first sight. Healthy people are getting smaller every year. The reason for this is our food. As a part of products, various food additives are increasingly occurring, including E1442. What this is and how this substance affects our body, know not all. What foods contain this food supplement? Let's try to figure it out.
E1442 - what is it?
E1422 is an additive related to modifiedstarches. Its chemical name is hydroxypropyl dicalcium phosphate. Crosslinked hydroxypropylated dichromosphate is another name for E1442. What it is? The additive is widely used in the food industry as an emulsifier or thickener. In its essence, this is the most common starch used in the manufacture of food products, which has changed initial characteristics. E1442 is a fine-grained white powder of a yellow hue.
Method of obtaining
Additive Е1442 is created in laboratory conditionsby the esterification reaction of conventional edible starch. This requires sodium trimetaphosphate (or phosphorus oxychloride) and propylene oxide. In the esterification reaction, individual structural groups of the starch molecule are combined ("crosslinked"). This leads to the fact that the modified starch has better properties than the conventional one. Often, starch derived from genetically modified corn is used to make the additive. If you add modified starch, then the food when defrosting and freezing does not lose its flavor, have a more uniform consistency and color. Also, the additive is more stable in an alkaline and acidic environment.
Are there acceptable consumption standards?
The thickener E1442 is allowed to be added to various foods, and the daily intake rate is not determined. But there are standards for different product categories:
- Not more than 10 g per 1 kg for canned carrots.
- Up to 20 - for canned sardines and similar products.
- Up to 60 - for canned mackerel and analogues.
- Up to 10 - for flavored fermented fermented milk products and yoghurts in combination with other similar additives.
E1442 is a food additive that is authorizednot only in Russia, but also in some European countries, the USA, New Zealand, Australia. In the dairy industry, it is used in the production of sweet curd cheese curd, cream, as well as yogurt and ice cream, since it allows achieving a viscous consistency of the final product. It does not do without modified starch and the production of fast food (various soups, sauces) and canned food (mainly fish, vegetable, fruit).
Hydroxypropyl dicalcium phosphate absorbs wellwater and perfectly dissolves in it. As a thickener, this substance can be fully used in the production of a variety of mortars, mixtures. Modified starch can be used in the oil and gas industry as a component of lubricating and cooling solutions for drilling equipment. The thickener E1442 is also used in various technological stages of production in the pulp and paper industry. It is also possible to use this substance in the textile sector, since it is resistant to mechanical influences and high temperatures.
E1442: harmful or not?
E1442 is considered to be a safe and harmless additive. Is it really? First, you need to understand how it is digested in the body.
This substance, like the starch that is habitual for us,easily processed by the human body. E1442 when interacting with water in the digestive tract becomes glucose, and then absorbed by the body. As a result of the hydrolysis reaction of the modified starch, a byproduct, dextrin, is formed. It is a polysaccharide, which is harmful to the body. Uncontrolled consumption of foods containing this food supplement leads to a slowing down of the digestive process in the intestine. This can cause flatulence, nausea, the development of gastric diseases.
Nevertheless, the effect of the additive on humanthe body is still unexplored. Excessive consumption of products with hydroxypropyl dicalcium phosphate can also provoke an increase in the appendix. Doctors do not advise to use such products for pregnant and lactating women, and also use them in the diet of children of any age. Among other things, scientists know that modified starch is capable of provoking the development of pancreatic diseases.
Modern food manufacturersargue that food additives are harmless, including E1442. What it is? This substance is a synthetic starch with improved characteristics. In fact, the supplement is not absolutely harmless, as it can cause diseases of the digestive system.
