A bit of history
The first mention of the city dates from the beginning of the 12th century, when fishermen's huts began to be built in these places.
In 1497 in Calella only 5 residential buildings were erectedhouses, 9 more were built in the neighboring Valderoura and Cappasre. In the 16th century, the central part of the modern city is gradually forming: the market square, the streets of Mar, Batelier, Iglesia and the Salvador quarter. The Pope approved the creation of a local church parish in 1525. A few years later the construction of the temple began. In 1564 the church was consecrated. Spain, Calella in particular, began to develop in the tourist direction in the 60s. Local people began to abandon traditional occupations - fishing and textile production - and began to pay more attention to tourism.

Calella has hosted a large number of parks, promenades and, of course, hotels, apartments for rent, as well as camping sites that can easily accommodate 14,000 holidaymakers in a country such as Spain. Calella has three kilometers of clean golden beaches with a total area of more than 180,000 sq.m. There is a large Dalmau Park, Manuel Alleys, Garbi and Puigver. All this makes the city the most comfortable tourist center of Spain, allowing you to get real pleasure from staying in these places. Each year, Calella receives about 250,000 tourists from all over the world, but especially these places are loved by the Germans and the British.

The most attractive part of the city is Vila Square, where trade began to develop from the 14th century.
The main interest is the buildings builtin the Gothic style and retained their original appearance with amazing decorative elements of the 16th century - the values of the architectural heritage of Calella. Here you can see the beautiful church of St. Nicholas and St. Mary, built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. The altar bas-relief has been preserved since the 16th century. Visiting the museum-archive, located in the building of the 17th century, every tourist learns more about the history of the city. It will be interesting to see the construction of monastic orders, the ruins of optical communication towers. The 18th and 19th centuries left their mark on the architecture of the Llobet-Guri factory building.
