History

The Theater Square in Kirov was founded in 1784year, though at that time it was called Khlebnaya. Yes, and the area it was not at all, it was just crossing the streets almost in the center of the city. Before the war of 1812, Kirov expanded, and, accordingly, a new architectural plan was developed. But, unfortunately, the project of N.I. Kozlov was never fully implemented. After the war there was a restoration of the city. In 1877 a drama theater was built. It is not surprising that the square was soon called Theater. But this name was delayed for a little while. In 1975, the government renamed it into a square named after the Constitution, but already in 1989 the historical name comes back.

The size of the Theater Square in Kirov is impressive, and that the free place was not empty, the governor in 1933 decided to erect a monument to Lenin. Was even ordered an individual project for this monument. But, as often happens, there was not enough money to build a sculpture, and we had to put a standardized bronze figure.

A unique tree of desires, "planted" V. Seleznev, is one of the most interesting objects of street art. This sculpture is made in the form of a 6-meter oak tree, which is incredibly similar to its living original. The tree has even leaves made of iron and attached to the trunk by springs. Such fastening allows the metal foliage to "rustle" in the wind. The center of composition, of course, is the ear in which you need to whisper your most intimate desire.

The Art Museum. Vasnetsov is a historical landmark of the square. Its fund contains more than 20 thousand exhibits, including paintings, graphic works and decorative art. In 1910, the museum was opened thanks to the efforts of the Vasnetsov brothers, but during the Soviet period the government nationalized it. Today, all the iconic exhibitions, art master classes, classes with children and adults are held in the walls of the museum on the Theater Square.
