Formation

The beginning of the breakout

Participated in the suppression of the Nazi revenge-seekers' attempts to make a coup in Hungary. After this, the command sent the division to Czechoslovakia to participate in Operation Danube.

In 1968, the government of Czechoslovakiamost betrayed the idea of ​​socialism and wanted to ask for help from NATO. In response, the Warsaw Treaty countries decided to suppress the coup attempt by military means. Preparation and planning of the operation took place in the strictest secrecy. Commanders in the field until the last minute did not know about specific goals and combat missions. On August 21, Allied troops stopped the border of Czechoslovakia and occupied key political and military targets. The operation was successful, practically without losses and battles.
