History

Nikolsky Uyezd was formed in 1780. By 1923 it consisted of 24 townships. It was abolished in 1924.
The Gryazovets district was also established in 1780. The population was much lower - 95 thousand people. In this district there was only one large city - Gryazovetsk. Famous for the fact that it produced oil.
Vologda county consisted of 28 parishes. Their number was gradually reduced to 17 by 1926.
