Moral choice: comfort or values
When it comes to morality, oursociety tends to rush into two extremes: then the listener is arrogantly imposed trivial truths, then people are afraid to use the very word combination "moral choice". Arguments of moralists come up against the arguments of nihilists, but as a result, an ordinary person feels antipathy for both "good" and "bad" guys.
Where Victims Begin
Moral choice is a situation in whicha person must accept or not make difficult decisions for the benefit of another person or in accordance with his views and beliefs. More often than not, the question is worth asking: is the person ready to sacrifice for the sake of the other with their comfort and pleasure? Simple household issues may also include a moral choice: the husband and wife are tired, she goes to wash the dishes, will he take the initiative on himself or leave the war with the mud, going to his favorite sofa?
How to discount the good
If you think that the above example is toosmall, you are mistaken. Serious victims can bring only people who know how to control their moral will in small things. One-time beautiful gesture does not prove that a person is capable of consciously and long-term adherence to the values of kindness. Most likely, a person will soon regret his decision. By the way, in the Orthodox Christian tradition, repentance destroys in the moral sense not only bad, but also good deeds. That is, if a person has done good, and then regretted it - then a good deed is not counted. So morality is not a single gesture, but a lifestyle.
In their eyes
If an act does not give a person visiblereward, what makes him choose an uncomfortable option for himself? Psychologists have found that each of us by nature needs to feel good. Therefore, people tend to deceive - but on average, not much. Many will assign a small amount of money found, but if the amount is large, it is most likely returned to the owner. That is, inside each person there is something like a counter, a radar that does not allow it to fall below the bar set for itself. Self-deception in the details is common, but serious - only in mentally ill people. So people want to feel "right", at least in their own eyes, and are ready to pay for this unrewarded rewards.
Success and morality
The problem of the moral choice of a person sopopular among philosophers and religious figures, was associated with the overall success of man in life. It turns out that the moral choice is related to the ability of a person to wait for a deferred reward instead of immediately receiving it. It turns out that moral people have higher self-control and the ability to achieve goals. So success and morality often go hand in hand. Many very rich people abroad, who have earned their money honestly, give colossal sums to charity.
Moral choice is exercised every day. To be faithful in the big, you need to learn to be faithful in the small. It seems that this biblical thesis should be just believed.
