Rare coins of Ukraine: examples and description
Numismatists always want to get the rarestcopies for your collection. That explains the huge cost of some individual coins, which can be hundreds or even thousands of times higher than their denomination. Rare coins of Ukraine - what are they and what is their value?
What is numismatics?
This term (from the Latin "nomenism" iscoin) should be treated in two ways. Firstly, it is a science that is part of the system of historical disciplines, which studies the types and features of the issue of monetary money. Secondly, it is a kind of collecting (collecting) various coins.
Numismatics is not just a hobby. Some particularly fortunate people managed to turn it into a good way to earn money. And the subject of their "hunt" is precisely the rare coins of Ukraine and other states.
However, it should be noted that numismatics are, above all, a hobby. And for the sake of such hobby it is required to spend a lot of its forces, time and money.
What are the Ukrainian coins hunted by collectors and numismatists? Let's try to understand this question.
Rare coins of Ukraine: which of them are valued?
Not every coin is able to attract the attention of a collector. The cost price of a particular specimen depends on several factors:
- metal from which the coin is made;
- circulation (or issue);
- other features (rare stamping, unusual thickness, special pattern and the like);
- allowed marriage in the production of a consignment of coins.
This is quite surprising, but even defectiveinstances become an object of search for numismatists and, consequently, grow in their price. So, there are rare coins of Ukraine, in which the obverse (coat of arms) is deployed at 180 or 135 degrees relative to the face value. Or there are coins on which there is no obverse at all - on both sides there is a denomination. Such coins are very rare, and therefore valuable to a certain circle of people.
In addition, numismatists pay attention for a yearrelease of money. So, the rarest years of coins of Ukraine for today are 1992 and 1994. Separate (at face value) coins of these years of release are highly appreciated.

The rarest jubilee coins of the country
Also among the numismatists, so-called jubilee Ukrainian coins are valued. Below are five of the most exclusive and valuable copies of them.
Name | Nominal | Metal | The price of a coin |
"Final of Euro-2012" | 500 UAH | gold | 350000 uah |
"Oranta" | 500 UAH | gold | 130000 UAH |
"Pectoral" | 100 UAH | gold | 43000 UAH |
"Golden Gate" | 100 UAH | gold | 30000 UAH |
"10 years of Independence of Ukraine" | 20 UAH | silver | 31000 UAH |
The key factor is that these coins have such ahigh cost - the metal from which they are made. The second important factor is, of course, the circulation of the coin. All copies presented in this table have a small circulation. So, the most expensive jubilee coin of Ukraine, which was dedicated to the final match of Euro 2012, was released in the amount of 500 pieces. The weight of one coin is 500 grams. This explains the fabulous amount that you need to put the collector to get this unique coin.
Here is another example: 20-hryvnia coins issued for the 10th anniversary of Ukraine's independence have a circulation of only 1,000 pieces. In addition, most of them were handed to deputies and ministers as souvenirs. Therefore today numismatists are ready to offer considerable money for this copy.
Are in great demand alsoexperimental and trial coins. For example, in 1992, a small batch of Ukrainian coins with a nominal value of 15 kopecks (similar to Soviet money) was issued. However, later this denomination was abandoned, but some of the unique coins still came into use. And now 15-penny Ukrainian coins are in great demand among coin collectors. At various specialized forums collectors offer huge sums for them - from 10 thousand hryvnia apiece.
Finally...
Many citizens are not very respectful of"trifles" and, having received in the store change in the form of small coins, casually throw them into your purse. However, here the saying "a penny - a ruble (hryvnia) protects" acquires practical meaning. It is always worth attentively looking at small coins. After all, at any time you can get in the hands of the one for which months hunt crowds of numismatists and collectors.
