Varieties of plums

Plum is a common fruit tree, it is easyadapts to the various conditions of growth, which allows its varieties to grow easily in the Caucasus, and in Siberia and the Far East. Different sorts of plums allow to satisfy different requirements of consumers of its fruits, both fresh and canned. High content of vitamins, pectins, sugars, organic acids, makes plum not only tasty, but also useful food.
The sorts of plums come in the section Prunus, the subgenusPrunophora Necker, genus Prunus L. At the moment there are about 20 species. Sorts of plums in their separation take into account such characteristics: the shape of the fruit, color, taste, method of pollination, frost resistance, maturity. Similar in the characteristics of the varieties of plums are grouped together: Hungarian, Thorny, Renclod, Mirabell, Egg Plum.

Renclods - varieties of this group have fruits roundedforms, with a lot of pulp and sweet taste, have a yellow or green color. Basically used in fresh form. Examples of varieties from this group:

Mirabeli - varieties of this group have small, medium-sized fruits in color and taste similar to cherry plum. Mainly used for the preparation of preservation. Examples of varieties from this group:

  1. Mirabel Nancy (medium ripening, high frost resistance, productivity, self-fertilizing - the best pollinator Wengerka is Italian, universal application);
  2. Mirabel September (average maturation, high frost resistance, yield, self-fertilizing, universal application).


Egg plums - varieties of this group have ovate-shaped fruits, large-sized fleshy, sweet to taste, mostly yellow in color. Examples of varieties from this group:

  1. Egg blue (medium ripening and yield, increased frost resistance, self-fertilized, prone to damage to pests and diseases);
  2. Etude (early, high yield and frost resistance);
  3. A golden drop (medium ripening, high yield, self-fertilizing, low frost resistance, universal application).

Also worth paying attention to the grade "Angelina" - late plum, which has excellent frost-resistant properties. And its fruits are kept until the spring.
