Molding of plastics at home.

Plastics are currently maximizedare common in our daily life. From plastic are made various elements of cars, buildings, household appliances, as well as furniture, utensils and much more. Often home masters, plastic at home is used as a source material in order to make various useful items.

All plastics that are used to make household products are divided into two groups: thermoplastic and thermoset.

Thermosetting plastics are characterized by maximum hardness and minimal plasticity, which allows them not to melt or soften when heated.

If you heat up to a certain temperaturethermoplastic plastics, they will melt, but if temperatures decrease, they will become solid again. This property of thermoplastic plastics makes it possible to manufacture plastics at home and produce parts.

What is the composition of plastics? How is plastic made at home?

Homemade plastic can be preparedin the following way. It is necessary to mix thoroughly small wood sawdust and magnesite in a proportion of 2: 1, pour the mixture with a solution of 0.1% magnesium chloride and mix so as to get a doughy state. In order to obtain details of such a plastic, the main method is used - plastic injection at home in molds. When solidified, the plastic will acquire a rather high strength with good compliance to the treatment, i. E. it is not difficult to drill, saw, handle with an abrasive tool or file.

You can produce plastic in a different way. It is necessary to mix wood fine sawdust with ground talc in the proportion of 5: 2 and pour the prepared carpenter's glue. The glue must have a consistency of thick sour cream. The resulting mixture must be mixed to obtain a doughy condition. It will be reasonable to introduce into the mixture 1/2 mass part of alumina or aluminum alum, which provides protection against mold and natural linseed oil, which provides an increase in plasticity. Plastic can be painted if desired. To do this, add aniline dye of the desired color to the plastics. For the manufacture of parts, the method is used - molding plastics at home in molds. To increase the strength of plastic in the mixture at the time of manufacture, thickened nitrocellulose or nitrolac is poured in place of the glue. Details are also made by casting.

Good characteristics have a plastic thatare prepared from the following components: paper dry mass / carpenter dry glue / finely ground chalk / glycerin / ethyl alcohol / ocher dry, which are mixed in accordance with the mass parts 5/28/60 / 2,5 / 3,5 / 1.

It is necessary to crush the paper dry mass andpour the diluted carpentry glue. During the breeding should gradually introduce glycerin, chalk, ocher and alcohol, without stopping to mix the mixture. Parts from this mixture also use plastic molding at home. The product is colored if an aniline dye is added to the mixture.

Phenol-formaldehyde plastic is also notlabor to cook at home. It is necessary to take crystalline (phenol) hydroxybenzene or analogues and an aqueous solution of 40% formalin. Concentrated carbolic acid is quite capable of replacing phenol. It is necessary to mix crystalline phenol (20 g) with formalin (30 g), adding concentrated hydrochloric acid (30 drops). Instead of phenol, you can use carbolic acid (40ml). The mixture should spontaneously heat and boil, and the consistency will become glassy and viscous. The resulting mass should be poured into the mold for 30 minutes, after which the mixture in the form is immersed in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Then you can remove the product from the mold. The resin obtained in this way is a thermoset plastic with a reddish color, having a hardness and strength. From it manufacturing of details which it is supposed to subject to significant loads is supposed.
