LG: marking TVs, deciphering the name of the model
Buying a serious technique, such as a TV,always want to know more about it than written on the store price tag. Today we will tell you about one effective way to get a little more of this information - you just need to decipher the marking of LG TVs. Let's analyze both examples-samples, and values of all existing notations.
Legend of LG TVs
The labeling of the TV is usually indicated on the price tag, so you can even find and decrypt it without the help of a sales consultant. For LG, it looks like this:
LG 00 A B 2 3 4 C, where:
- 00 - the first two digits indicate the size of the TV display (in inches);
- A - alphabetic codes for the variety of the screen matrix;
- B - the alphabetic code of the year when this model was developed;
- 2 - the series to which the device belongs;
- 3 - serial number of the model in the series;
- 4 - a figure indicating any changes in the design;
- C - letter code such as the matrix, its resolution, digital tuner.
We draw your attention to the fact that the labeling of LG OLED TVs differs somewhat from the one presented:
OLED 00 A 1 B, where:
- OLED - type of TV display;
- 00 - screen diagonal in inches;
- A - the number of the model excellent in the design;
- 1 - the year when this model was submitted by the developers;
- B is the device's tuner type.
Now you can proceed to a more detailed analysis of each item
Display Size
Here everything is simple. TV LG 42 ... is a device with a screen diagonal of 42 inches. For reference: 1 inch is 2.54 cm. The display size has a direct impact on the price, so even a few inches difference can have a significant impact on the cost.
The fastest paying models - with a diagonal32-50 inches. More and more buyers stop on 55-inch screens. Therefore, LG 42 ..., which we identified in the example, is the average model for these characteristics.
TV screen type
The second part of the marking of the models says about the following:
- P - before you the plasma panel.
- C - LCD (TV with a matrix on liquid crystals) with fluorescent backlight.
- L - LCD-TV with LED-backlight (on LED lamps).
- U - LCD screen with LED backlight and Ultra HD resolution.
- E, EC - OLED-display (until 2016, then such models began to be labeled OLED ..., which we disassembled in the previous section).
- S - innovation of 2017, Super UHD-TV with a matrix of Nano Cell (super-matrix with particles emitting light, the size of which does not exceed 1 nanometer).
- (LG) LF - TVs with high-quality Full HD resolution.
- UF is a flat screen TV with 4K resolution.
- EF - OLED-TV with a flat display, the resolution of which is 4K.
- EG - OLED-TV, but already with a concave screen, whose resolution is also not less than 4K, and the matrix - four-color.
- UB - the device with the sanction of the screen 4К.
- UC - TV with a concave display such as C-curved.
- LB - the technology has the quality of the Full HD screen.
- LY - a special designation of commercial large TVs, which are used in bars, hotels, supermarkets, etc.
LCD, "plasma", OLED: advantages and disadvantages
Thus, today the company provides three main types of TVs:
- LCD (liquid crystal) - Such a screen consists of an LCD matrix (liquidcrystals located between the polymers), light sources, wires, body stiffening. Each "liquid crystal" is two layers of polarization filters, between which are enclosed electrodes, and between them, in turn, is a layer of molecules.
- Plasma (SED) - the so-called gas-discharge monitors. Their work is based on the luminescence of the phosphor under the influence of UV rays. The latter arise in an ionized gas during the passage of an electric discharge.
- OLED - a screen of this type is made up of organic compounds that are capable of emitting light when electric current passes through them.
Consider the main advantages and disadvantages of the LG TV models presented in the table.
Variety | pros | Minuses |
Liquid Crystal Displays | Small weight and size of the device. Unlike electron beam devices, there is no flicker, image focusing defects, sharpness interference and the geometry of the transmitted image. Many models are characterized by clearly low power consumption - it depends entirely on the power of the glow of the lamps or the LED backlight. | A clear image is possible only with one resolution. A small contrast of the image, as well as the depth of the black shade. Sometimes there is a problem of non-uniform brightness of the image. Virtually not protected against mechanical damage. Often there is a problem of a "broken pixel". Replacing fragile matrices is very expensive. A small run-up of permissible operating temperatures. |
Plasma TVs | Depth of color rendition. High contrast pictures. Uniformity of glow of black and white color. Long service life (according to some manufacturers, up to 30 years). | Increased power consumption (in comparison with LCD monitors). Larger pixels mean the development of large-size screens. It is possible to burn the screen in areas where a still image is being broadcast for a long time. |
OLED displays | Light weight and dimensions. Low power consumption while maintaining high brightness of the image. Ability to develop flexible displays. The ability to create televisions with giant screens. There is no need for lighting. Large viewing angle - the image can be viewed from any angle. Absence of inertia, instant response. High contrast pictures. The screen can work fully in a wide range: -40 ... +70 aboutFROM. | Short service life of diodes. Red and green connections burn out much slower than blue, which can significantly distort the color reproduction of the image. The impossibility of creating durable 24-bit displays. High price, combined with some underdevelopment of technology |
Having analyzed the features of the screen types presented, we go further on the interpretation of the marking.
Year of development
The code that corresponds to the marking of LG TVs for the year of development of a particular model can be as follows:
- J - 2017.
- H-2016.
- G, F - 2015.
- C, B-2014.
- A, N - 2013.
- M, S, W - 2012.
- V - 2011.
LG TV series
We will analyze in the following table a series of LG TVs and their distinctive characteristics.
Series | Description |
9 | The series is represented by models with a widescreen (80-100 inches) screen, complete with the maximum set of accessories. |
8 | 3D-TV LG, with a number of additional accessories, such as a webcam. |
7 | TVs that support 3D-image, having improved characteristics of screen quality. |
6 | 3D-TV LG with a diagonal display up to 60 inches. |
5 | The usual, but widescreen - 32-50 inches. |
4 | TVs, characterized by a small screen size (22-28 inches). |
Let's move on to the penultimate item of the marking.
Model number
The two following symbols in the marking of LG TVs mean the following:
- The first figure is the number of this model in the series from the subtitle above.
- The second figure - highlights any design features of your chosen TV: color, design decision, the shape of its stand and so on.
HD Support and Tuner
The last letter code will tell you about the capabilities of the matrix or tuner to support a certain resolution. Let's present this information in the table.
Code | Format | Value |
U, B | HD | The screen does not support Full HD; diagonal screen at least 32 inches |
O | DVB-C, DVB-T | |
V | DVB-C, DVB-S2, DVB-T2 | Display resolution of at least 1920 x 1080 pixels |
S | DVB-S2 | Supports the format of satellite digital television |
C | DVB-C | Supports the format of cable digital television |
T | DVB-T | Complies with the European digital terrestrial television standard |
The most "successful" code is, of course, V. Such TV sets support all formats of TV, broadcast in Russia and the CIS countries. In addition, it is this letter that denotes Full HD screens.
Types of tuners
We will tell more in detail about the sound formats:
- DVB-C - the European standard of digital TV, which is used by cable operators.
- DVB-S, DVB-S2 - TV support for these digital formatsTV says that for viewing satellite TV channels you will only need a satellite dish and a special card from the provider. A special set-top box (receiver) is not needed.
- DVB-T, DVB-T2 - the first format of on-air digital TV ("caught"conventional remote antenna) is typical for the countries of the European Union, and the second - for Russia and CIS countries. Although T2 is an improved version of T, they are not interchangeable.
That's all we wanted to tell you aboutlabeling LG TVs. We hope that the information provided will help you make the right choice when buying, or you will learn a bit more about the technology already available for you. Needless to say, the information indicated in the labeling must not conflict with the product description in its documents, warranty card, instructions - this state of affairs may be grounds for questioning the authenticity of the TV.
