Rifle Mosin: little-known facts
Probably, there are few people in Russia, and inmost countries of the world who do not know what the Mosin rifle is. The Russian trilinear became one of the most famous, even epochal examples of weapons. This article is intended to provide little-known facts about such famous weapons.
The creators of the rifle
The appearance of the Mosin rifle is dueseveral designers. Guards Captain SI Mosin came up with a bolt and an original cut-off reflector, and a new cartridge with smokeless powder and barrel were the offsprings of Colonels Rogovtsev, Petrov and Staff-Captain Savostyanov (they were also on the commission that tested multi-shot rifles). The design of the clip and the method of charging were borrowed from the Nagano rifle, the drawings of which the Russian government acquired from the Belgian for a solid reward of 200 thousand rubles. Captain Mosin received only a tenth of this amount, which offended the inventor, and he believed until the end of his life that he had been treated unfairly. As a result of the circumstances described, the question arose of how to name the new rifle. After considering various proposals, it was decided not to mention the name of the designer at all, and to call the weapon "Russian three-line rifle of the sample of 1891", however this name was also considered unsuccessful and removed the word "Russian" from it. The increase in the name of the designer rifle Mosin received only after the revolution and already under this name stood in the arsenal of the Red Army, and then the Soviet Army. Under it, she is known and now.
Mosin's sniper rifle
Another generally little known fact is thatthat the three-line was the first domestic sniper rifle, that is, a rifle, specially produced for high-precision shooting. It differed from the serial more careful processing of the trunk, smaller technological tolerances during production and the shutter handle of a characteristic L-shape. Such a handle made it possible to mount an optical sight on the rifle.
Little-known shortcomings
It has become a tradition to praise the oldsamples of domestic weapons. And, of course, Mosin's rifle is not an exception, they say, it is a high-precision, super-reliable, faultlessly technological and easy-to-use weapon. Meanwhile, even advantages have a downside. For example, a very simple shutter did not have a safety lock at all, it was only possible to put the trigger on a safety platoon, but this was fraught with spontaneous dropping of the bolt and its loss (say, on the march), which, incidentally, often happened. In addition, the rifle was shot with a bayonet, and if it was shot, her fight changed a lot. As a result, the bayonet was almost always in combat position, which did not add to the convenience of manipulating an already very long weapon.
Finally
Anyway, with all his, andsometimes contradictory qualities, Mosin's rifle left a very visible mark in the history of world weapons. Even now, in the era of automatic weapons, its shots are audible all over the world. Well, for collectors and hunters, there are a lot of shops where the Mosin rifle is sold. The price for it is relatively small and depends on the condition and year of release of the three-line.
