Gomel Airport: location and features
If you have ever been to Belarus, then,probably, are familiar with the airport of the city of Gomel. It is quite famous and accepts not only domestic but also international flights, including planes of all Russian airlines. Today, Gomel airport became the topic of our article.
Airport History
Airport Gomel dates back to the fortiethyears of the last century. Initially, he provided only internal nearby routes, besides them, the runway was suitable only for agricultural aviation. Near the airport was based air ambulance, it was very in demand during the war.
By the beginning of the seventies of the last century the airportGomel received a new runway and began to carry out passenger transportation throughout the territory of the USSR. Flights were made in the southern and northern directions.
In the early nineties the airport Gomel receivedlong-awaited international status and began to conclude contracts for the maintenance of large European charter companies. Now the airport continues to work with charter air carriers, in the summer season the number of flights increases due to domestic regular routes.
Gomel Airport: general information
At the moment the airport serves the Belarusian company Belavia, it carries out all types of transportation:
- freight;
- passenger;
- charter.
The airport building is open around the clock. Passenger terminal serves about 45 thousand passengers a year. Gomel Airport has two buildings, one of which was built in the forties. The second has a more recent date of construction (1985) and has one terminal, a hotel and a cozy dining room.
Some time ago Gomel airport, flightswhich is limited to medium-sized charter companies, was the base of the bankrupt Gomelavia air carrier. The runway can not accept all aircraft, it is limited to a cargo capacity of one hundred and seventy-one tons. Therefore, some airlines can not establish cooperation with this airport before the construction of a new runway.
Registration rules
If you take off from the airport of Gomel,that there is no electronic registration here. You must appear in front of the registration desk two and a half hours before departure, if this is an international flight. On internal routes, registration is opened in two hours. Approximately forty minutes before departure, all passengers must be registered.
Gomel Airport: how to get to the city center
The settlement has a sufficiently developednetwork of public transport. In addition, the airport is in the closest proximity to the city's borders. For example, you can reach the center by crossing only eleven kilometers. There are no big traffic jams on the roads of Gomel, so you will not even feel this distance.
Between the city and the airport there is a specialroute, it connects both points only on days when international and domestic departures are in progress. In addition to the regular bus route, you can get by public transport. For these purposes, a fixed-route taxi and nine bus services are suitable. They allow passengers to get to absolutely anywhere in the city, and buses connect the airport Gomel and the suburbs.
Today, the city administration is working onairport reconstruction project. In the near future, we will expand the runways and build a new modern building that will allow us to launch new regular international flights and establish cooperation with the main European air carriers.
