F.M. Dostoevsky "Crime and Punishment": a brief retelling

Many of us probably read in the school novel F.M. Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. The history of the creation of this work is interesting. It is known that the author was pushed to write by the case of the French murderer-intellectual Pierre Francois Lacer, who accused the society of all his misadventures. What prompted Rodion to murder

Rodion's mother hopes that the means of the future son-in-law will help his son continue his studies at the university. Reflecting on the victims of Sonya and Dunya, Raskolnikov convinces himself that the murder of the old woman-interest-holder will be for the good of society. With the acquaintance with the main character and the motives of his future crime, Dostoevsky begins "Crime and Punishment". Heroes of the work are not divided into positive and negative. All of them have a human weakness and a willingness to commit a sin because of any circumstances.

Murder

In the soul of our hero two opposingfeelings. One says that the death of the interest-bearing woman is predetermined, and the other is opposed to violence. On the night before the murder, Rodion dreamed of a childhood memory. In it, the heart of a boy shrinks from pity for the skinny horse, which is slaughtered to death. But, despite this, Raskolnikov still commits the murder of an old woman. Together with her, she also kills her sister Lizaveta, who witnessed the massacre. Stolen valuable things a former student hides in a random place, without even pretending to value them. So describes the scene of the murder in the novel Dostoevsky. "Crime and Punishment" allows us not only to get acquainted with the psychology of the criminal, but also to understand the motives for committing this evil deed.

A former student assures that there are two categories of people: the lower and the higher. He says that the highest link is given the right to "blood in conscience". An astute policeman suspects that an old woman murderer is sitting in front of him. But he has no proof.

Mikolka admits to murder

This was not Raskolnikov's last conversation withinvestigator. Soon the murderer, tormented by remorse and doubt in his theory, again comes to the police. The investigator manages to bring the criminal to a nervous breakdown. His frank confession is close. But unexpectedly for all the murder is borne by the painter from the village of Mikolka.

Recognition of Raskolnikov

It would seem that for Rodion everything ended well. He has the opportunity to escape punishment. But the thoughts of a perfect crime do not give him peace. He feels the need to share it with someone. Raskolnikov goes to Sonia and tells her everything. She pities the murderer, saying that the tortures of the moral are stronger than the tortures of the physical, and invites him to atone for his sin by recognition and subsequent punishment. However, Rodion does not agree with her. He does not want to feel like a "quivering creature." The former student goes home and meets there the investigator Porphyry, who came to convince him to confess to the murder. Rodion is also trying to escape responsibility here. But soon our hero is still in the station to make a confession. After the trial, he was sent to hard labor in Siberia. Sonia Marmeladova settles down beside him to share his torment with him. Gradually, the assassin is convinced that his theory generates only chaos and death. On the way to spiritual resurrection, he takes the Gospel in his hands. This episode is uploaded by Dostoevsky. "Crime and Punishment" was published in parts. Already after its publication, the work was finalized and shortened by the author. So it has come down to our days.
