Memorial building

The first house-museum of Chekhov in Moscow (Chekhov's room) was created on the initiative of members of the writer's family in the library of the Rumyantsev Museum in April 1912.

In 1921, the exposition received the status of a museum,however, a separate building for it was not allocated. Since the 1920s, the collection of the museum continued to be replenished and scientifically studied, in 1934 most of which was transferred to the State Literary Museum.

One of the departments of Goslitmuzey in 1954 becameto bear the name "Chekhov's House-Museum", under the exposition of which was allocated a historical building in which the writer lived from 1886 to 1890. The building was built in 1874.

The museum hosts thematic classes forvisitors of all ages. For example, in the lesson "What is a museum?" A journey to the world of museums is carried out. We are talking about the first museums in the world, dating back to the times of Ancient Greece, about the largest and most famous world museums, the first museums in Russia, the most famous Russian museums. Visitors are taught to navigate in the museum exposition of Chekhov's house museum, everyone can be a museum worker. In the lesson "Kashtanka" children are introduced to the story creation story, they play a scene from it and watch a cartoon.
