Diplomatic relations between the SovietUnion and the Republic of Tunisia began in 1956. After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Federation became its legal successor and officially relations between the countries are established on December 25, 1991.
History of interstate relations
The first meeting of the presidents of the two statesoccurred in New York at the Millennium Summit in 2000. After that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the delegation of the State Duma, the Minister of Culture and Education visited Tunis in different years.
October 23, 2011 elections to the National Assembly of Tunisia took place. Representatives from the Russian Federation were invited to monitor the elections, and all conditions for the democratic expression of the will of Tunisian citizens were ensured on the territory of the Russian Federation.
A number of trade and economic cooperation agreements have been signed between the countries in the following areas:

History of the Russian School at the Embassy
The educational institution was opened in 1977year, but it was only an elementary school, which provided for the education of students up to grade 4. In 1994, a secondary school was opened, the graduates of which could already get a full secondary education, and in 2007 it receives the official status of a general education school attached to the Russian Embassy.
