The Rostov region is located in a temperate climatic zone. The climate here
continental, so severe frosts orfierce heat are rare here. The abundance of greenery, many reservoirs, hills and plains have become an excellent residence for many species of fish and amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals. There are snakes in this region.
Steppe Viper
The snakes of the Rostov region, for the most partnon-toxic. The most dangerous among them are the steppe vipers. They are mostly found in the Orel region, but sometimes they are found even in close proximity to the city: under the village of Bagaevskaya, between Rostov and
Bataysk. In short, wherever there are clay ravines and dry, bush-covered slopes. Brownish gray, with a dark back, decorated with a dark brown zigzag back, these snakes are very beautiful. They can grow up to 65 centimeters. Vipers are very similar to snakes, but, unlike them, the sides of the steppe adder are adorned with dark, not very pronounced spots. Contrary to popular belief, the snakes of the Rostov region, including steppe vipers, never attack first. They bite only defending themselves. Vipers feed on small rodents, chicks, lizards. The sting of a steppe viper is toxic, but not always fatal. A person can die only if he does not receive medical care at all. In general, the snakes of the Rostov region are either not poisonous at all, or their poison is not fatal. However, if the place of bite gets dirt, the recovery can be delayed for a long time. Chess and black vipers in the RO do not occur.
Yellowtail
The yellowtail snake in the Rostov region prefersdry steppe, thickets of bushes, so you can meet it anywhere. This snake is not poisonous, but extremely aggressive. She moves very fast and hides briskly in thickets or other people's holes. If, however, the yellowtail does not have time to hide, then he rushes to his pursuer and can painfully bite and even more scare. Yellow-bellied stanzas grow to two meters, but so large specimens in the RO today are not found. Its name was given to the yellow-bellied because of the bright orange or yellow abdomen. Like all the snakes in the Rostov region, the yellow-bellies avoid crowded places.
Diners
The closest relatives of the yellowtail are the snakes. They can be gray (such in the RO most), black, dark green. From any other snake snakes can be distinguished by bright "ears" - so called very noticeable spots on the sides of the head. They can be bright orange, yellow, white. Oh - it's not just an innocuous and non-venomous snake. Already cowardly. These other snakes of the Rostov region (photo) hiss and frighten people, and in case of danger bite their enemy. Oh, seeing or feeling
man, flies. It is this peculiarity that Rostov girls are used for, for which catching snakes is a familiar and not a heroic occupation. The culprit is already "bitten" and hisses, and then, if the enemy is not frightened, relaxes and ... releases a stream of disgustingly smelling liquid from his cloaca. That is why Rostov boys say that they are "cowardly to the point of ruin." Fortunately, the smell very quickly disappears and leaves no traces behind.
