According to some versions, the script was based on materials from secret archives of Soviet intelligence services. Although it's hard to believe.

The plot develops in 1944. At the beginning of the film, Hitler, whose role is played by Valery Zolotukhin, in a desperate situation, confronts the German secret services with the difficult task of destroying Stalin (Gennady Khazanov). Naturally, to fulfill this super task, the Germans need agents who have been specially trained in the sabotage school of murder agents, in which Soviet prisoners of war are used as living material for training.

One of the German officer-instructors offersprisoners take part in gladiatorial battles with their relatives. The only one who manages to survive is Peter Tavrin (Konstantin Lavronenko) - a fluent Russian soldier. At the same time, news of the planned operation of the "Chinese box" comes to the attention of the Soviet intelligence services. The Russians in turn create a counter-intelligence group Smersh, consisting of one experienced and two young scouts. However, despite their inexperience, they still manage to uncover the criminal network. But they still have to find the future murderer of Stalin and neutralize him. At some point, Russian intelligence officers realize that someone among them is a mole. But who exactly? Really the operation "Chinese box" will not be disclosed?

In view of this, there is every reason to assume that this operation, which was called the "Chinese box", was in fact though not completed, but started by the German intelligence group.
