International Day - Nurse's Day
Every year on May 12, the International Day is celebrateda nurse, or International Nurses Day (the name adopted as a worldwide one). On this day, everyone should prepare to pay tribute to people who work for the benefit of others, who dedicated their lives to helping mankind.
International Nursing Day is acceptedto celebrate the birthday of one of the most famous Englishwomen, Florence Nightingale, who organized the very first service of the sisters of mercy in the world during the flared up Crimean War (1853-1856).
It was during the hostilities that thecertain stable stereotypes: a nurse is a nurse or nurse taking soldiers from the battlefield; she is standing next to the patient during the operation, and may herself provide first aid.
According to reliable sources, the Russiansnuns from the St. Nicholas monastery of the Russian capital went to the front during the Crimean War to join their sisters from abroad and help them to care for the wounded and sick soldiers. Later, the wives of aristocrats labored, helping the hospital staff. It is known that the daughter and the wife of Emperor Nicholas I. also contributed to a good endeavor.
Russia is a little behind with the adoption of thisholiday. And only in 1993 it was decided to add it to the general list. This suggests that Nurses Day is a relatively young holiday. It remains to be hoped that the younger generation will be able to penetrate its importance, having become acquainted with the history of this heroic profession.
