1942 year. German troops are on the outskirts of Moscow. After an unsuccessful frontal assault on the capital, the Wehrmacht decides to bypass the city from the flanks. To the south, elite units of the Guderian tank army were thrown, rapidly advancing towards Tula, the center of Russian gunsmiths. The government of the USSR takes an emergency decision to evacuate the main capacities of the Tula arms, and at the same time Podolsky mechanical plants in the deep rear - to the city of Izhevsk.

The equipment was delivered to the territorya small-sized Izhevsk machine-building plant. Although there was a catastrophic lack of space for the deployment of full-fledged production, the workers did their best to start releasing the much-needed military products again.

Birth

21.07.1942, the order of the State Committee of Defense from the structure of IZHMASH was assigned to Plant No. 622, later renamed the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant "Baikal". This production was mainly focused on the production of deficit anti-tank rifles of the Simonov (PTRS) and Degtyarev (PTRD) systems. A total of more than 130,000 units were produced.

Postwar years

In 1978, the production of the standard Izh-35 model was started, which in 1986 was replaced by the modified modification Izh-35M. For the labor achievements in strengthening the country's defense capacity, the plant was awarded the honorary order of Lenin (1966).

Civil products

Being a large multidisciplinary enterprise,Izhevsk Mechanical Plant "Baikal" produced (and produces) various products for the civilian industry. In the fifties and sixties, parts were made for motorcycle equipment (including engines) and automobiles, pneumatic equipment for ore-mining enterprises, sophisticated technologies for precision casting (mainly from steels) were mastered. In the 70-80s the range expanded due to various electrical equipment and consumer goods.
