Crankshaft sensor VAZ-2110: diagnostics, replacement and features
It is difficult to overestimate the value of the crankshaft sensorVAZ-2110 for the engine. It is with his help that the engine speed is monitored. Stable operation is possible only if the device and the control system function normally. A number of sensors send signals to the central unit, which processes the data and, by means of actuators, regulates the moment of ignition and supply of the mixture to the combustion chambers. But if there is a breakdown, the engine will stop working in normal mode - the spark will be lost, the fuel will not be fed into the combustion chambers. And it will be impossible to start the engine either hot or cold.
How the crankshaft sensor works
From the sensor mounted opposite the gearpulley crankshaft, a signal is sent to the electronic control unit. But there is one feature - on the pulley of 58 teeth. And there is a small gap - it is equal to the distance between two teeth. It is with this gap that the sensor detects the position.
This way it looks like this:
- When the crankshaft rotates, the sensor reads the number of teeth - exactly 58 pulses should be at an equal interval between adjacent ones.
- All these data are transmitted along the wire of the crankshaft sensor VAZ-2110 to the electronic control unit.
- Then the sensor hits the gap without teeth on the pulley and the ECU monitors this condition.
- With the aid of a gap without teeth, the number of revolutions of the motor is read.
- Due to the presence of teeth located at equal distance from each other, the electronic microcontroller unit understands the position of the crankshaft.

How to determine the breakdown?

How do I remove the device?
There is a sensor on the drive side of the generator,opposite the crankshaft pulley. You can find it by looking at the rear of the engine, on the oil pump. For dismantling, you will need a key to 10. The order of work is as follows:
- Disconnect the terminal block with the wires that connect the device to the engine management system.
- Having made labels, unscrew a nut from the case of the gauge.
- Remove the device for inspection or replacement.
But maybe the sensor is working fine, soit will need to be checked. Before removing the DPCV, measure the distance from its edge to the pulley - it should be in the range of 0.6-1.5 mm. If more than the maximum value, then adjust and try to start the motor.
Diagnosis by an ohmmeter
The very first thing you can do is conductMeasuring the resistance of the sensor winding. According to the standards adopted by the manufacturer, the value of 550-750 Ohm is normal. It is perfectly permissible, if 50-100 Ohm will differ from these values. But if the resistance is too large or is absent (broken), is required to replace the crankshaft sensor VAZ-2110. But failure is extremely rare - much more frequently in the active part of accumulated dirt and dust, or the body is subjected to mechanical stress. Try to clean the device more often and do not subject it to shocks.
