Bones of the foot. Departments. Some types of fractures

bones of the foot
The foot performs the supporting function of the human skeleton. She has the main load when walking and standing. The bones of the foot form a vault facing the dome. They, when combined, provide for the uprightness of a person. When walking, running, jumping the main pressure falls on the heel (heel hill) and on the head of metatarsal bones. Thanks to this structure, good damping is provided, and the load on other joints and spine is reduced.

The bones of the foot are divided into three sections. Tarsus department in its composition has seven parts, which are arranged in two rows. The first row (posterior) is represented by the heel and talus bone. They perform three functions. The main one is the supporting one, and the additional ones are protective and motor. The second row (anterior) is represented by a scaphoid, cube-shaped and three wedge-shaped bones. The metacarpus has five components, of which the first (in this case the count is from the medial side) is the thickest of them, and the second is the longest one. The bones of the foot of this department have a tubular structure. The toes are represented by 14 components. Each finger consists of three phalanges, a large one - of two.

Fracture of foot. Symptoms

Fracture of foot symptoms

This is often encountered leg injury,which occurs due to an unsuccessful landing on the feet during a jump from a height (even insignificant). In addition, the bones of the foot may suffer from the collision of the vehicle, the falling of heavy objects on it. The predisposing factor is its constant subluxation. Injuries to this part of the legs account for more than 30% of all recorded fractures. The most common fractures are the metatarsal foot, followed by the talus and heel bone, and the least affected is the wedge and cuboid.

Common symptoms of all foot injuries:

  • pain;
  • local edema of tissues;
  • cyanosis of the skin;
  • possible deformation of the foot;
  • impossibility to step on foot.

Fracture of the metatarsal bone of the foot - mosta common case of all fractures of this part of the legs (revealed in more than 45% of cases). Patients complain of pain in the affected area. At the site of the injury, there is swelling, cyanosis (hematoma), deformation is possible. To clarify the diagnosis, it is necessary to make an X-ray of the foot in two projections.

Apply circular gypsum to the knee jointfor a period of four to eight weeks. The time depends on the complexity of the fracture. The load is allowed to be given 21 days after the application of the gypsum. The full recovery period is about a year.

If a fracture with a displacement occurred, thenproduce a hood of the broken department, most often use knitting needles. If the trauma is complicated and it is necessary to do an open operation, then a general anesthesia is used. After this, also impose a plaster for up to eight weeks.

Fracture of the phalanges of the fingers is due tofalling heavy objects on them or sharp squeezing. There is pain in the broken finger, swelling, movement is disturbed. Treatment is carried out by applying a langete to the knee joint for a period of two to four weeks, and if the fracture was offset, then up to six. Full recovery occurs in two to three months.
