Thickness of the endometrium by the days of the cycle: rates and deviations
The woman's body is incredibly complex, especiallyreproductive system. There are many rules by which you can determine whether the girl is ready to conceive and bear. One of such norms is the thickness of the endometrium on the days of the cycle. More details about it - below.
What is the endometrium?
Uterus is muscular and almost completelyhollow organ, which has several layers. And one of them is the endometrium. Such a mucosa lining the uterine cavity from the inside and plays a very, very important role. The fact is that this layer is designed to provide the most favorable conditions for attaching the fetal egg to the uterine wall in the event of pregnancy. In addition, this phenomenon (change) of the menstrual cycle, like bleeding (i.e., menstruation) also occurs with the participation of the endometrium. This important shell undergoes certain metamorphoses throughout the cycle: first it prepares for conception and subsequent bearing, then in the absence of pregnancy, a part of it is rejected, after which active development and maturation again begins.
Thickness of endometrium: norms by day of cycle
So, what are the norms of the endometrium on the days of the cycle?
1. The first stage is the stage of bleeding, that is, the very beginning of the period (1-3 days). At this stage, the thickness of the endometrium can normally be 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters.
2. Then comes the regeneration stage (approximately on the 2nd or 4th day of menstruation), and then the endometrium thickens to 0.3-0.5 millimeters.
3. The early stage of proliferation begins on the 5th-7th day of the cycle and lasts approximately 3 days. At this time, the thickness of the mucous membrane of the uterus is usually 0.5 millimeters.
4. Following is the middle stage of proliferation (approximately 7-10 days of the menstrual cycle). At this stage, the thickness of the endometrium on the days of the cycle thickens to 0.8 millimeters.
5. Then comes the last, late, stage of proliferation (this is the 10-14 day of the cycle), at which this index can reach 1.1 cm.
6. Next is the early stage of secretion (14-18 day cycle). At this stage, the endometrium can thicken to 1.2 centimeters. The lower limit of the norm is 1.1 centimeters.
7. Approximately on the 19-23th day of the menstrual cycle, the middle stage of secretion begins, at which the thickness of the mucous lining of the uterus can reach a maximum of 1.8 centimeters, and an average of 1.4. And this is the highest value for the whole cycle.
8. And from the 24-27th day the endometrium begins to gradually thin out, and at this stage the thickness can be about 1-1.7 centimeters.
Deviation from the norm
If the thickness of the endometrium by the day of the cycle is notcorresponds to normal values, then it is worth talking about abnormalities: hyperplasia (thickening) or hypoplasia (thinning). In the first case, the cause is probably such diseases as uterine myoma or endometriosis. And the second situation (namely, thinning) can arise due to insufficient blood supply to the endometrium, endometritis or hormonal disorders.
In conclusion, we can add that the thickness of the endometrium by the day of the cycle should be determined by a doctor who will prescribe treatment if necessary.
