Prerequisites for the creation of the monument
Monument "Friendship of Peoples" (Izhevsk) arose in the mindsdesigners as a plan in 1958, when the 400th anniversary of the unification of Udmurtia and Russia wanted to make a special holiday surprise for citizens. We decided to build this grandiose monument, which later became a symbol of the unity of two groups of citizens. For a long time not a mite, laid the stone-symbol, which was on the point where now stands the Hall of Fame.
However, from words to deeds passed already in the late 60's. The organizers wanted the statue to be 52 meters high. It presupposed the presence of four sculptures, symbolizing universal peace, equality of people, fruitful work and steps towards modernity. However, the Soviet Union's aviation had its own requirements, according to which it would be necessary to install lights on the structure reaching a height of 50 m, which would warn flying aircraft about the existence of such a high construction. The monument of Friendship of Peoples (Izhevsk) would then not look as impressive, beautiful and impressive as the developers intended.
Decision
It was necessary to sacrifice a high relief, whichdepicted modernity. Thus, the height was reduced to 46 meters, which allowed not to impose unnecessary responsibility. In addition, from the very beginning two low steles were to be involved in the construction, they were an integral part of the monument. They wanted to decorate with mosaics of different colors, made of smalt.
Figures on them were to be narrated abouthistorical events that took place in Udmurtia. The drawings were approved in Moscow. However, the absence of steels can be explained by the very banal circumstance that arose before the developers: there was not enough money.
