Only his nephew's wife remained with the survivors, except for him, with two children who left Vasteras. At this moment, Maister Amon was again tempted to claim the throne or to avenge his relatives, but he overcame him.

To save the already very decrepit and blinded Aymon from an unenviable fate, John, along with his loyal friends, sends the master to the south. However, on the way the old man caught cold and died.

Before his death, Amon learned of the rebirth of the dragons by his great-niece Deyneris. He wanted to go to her, but died before.
